We are living through a rare moment. In a few years, instruments that until recently only large organisations could afford have come within anyone’s reach: the capacity to research, calculate, compare, draft and simulate at a speed that changes the nature of our work. For those who practise Law and Economics, the question is no longer whether these tools should be used, but for whom.
Our answer is clear: for people. For the citizen who puts off a legal problem because he does not know where to start, for the small business with no legal department and no finance director, for the local authority that must decide well with limited means. It is for them that technology has to work, lowering the cost of good advice and shortening the time it takes to get an answer, without ever dispensing with the judgement, the responsibility and the professional secrecy of a qualified adviser.
It was with this idea that we brought lawyers and economists together in one firm, that we subscribed to the Ethical Legal Alliance Manifesto, and that we are building Lexea. Technology changes the means. What does not change is the commitment: to understand what each client needs and to give them the best that our time allows.
