How we work

A question is rarely purely legal or purely economic. We have organised ourselves so that you do not have to choose.

Portugal Economics and Legal is a multidisciplinary firm: lawyers and economists work within the same organisation, share matters and answer to the same client. Each professional remains bound by the ethical rules of their own professional body, including professional secrecy and technical independence, and every matter has a named person in charge.

How the practice areas are organised

  • Legal practice: ten groups, from the life of companies to family matters, from administrative law to criminal law.
  • Economic practice: four groups, from business planning to valuation and economic studies.
  • Public sector and Non-profit entities: pages that bring together, for each of these audiences, what we do in both areas.
  • Integrated solutions: matters that call for a lawyer and an economist from the outset.
  • Lexea: the digital platform we are developing.

How we deliver

Mode What it is for
Consultation To clarify a situation and know what to do next, online or at our office
Legal opinion A written, reasoned answer to a specific question
Mandate Representation in an administrative procedure, a negotiation or court proceedings
Retainer Ongoing support, for those who need assistance on a regular basis
Project Work with a defined scope, phases and deliverables, such as a study, a regulation or a compliance programme

From first contact to closing the matter

  1. First contact. We listen to the request and check for any conflict of interest.
  2. Proposal. We define the scope and set out in writing the fees, or how they will be calculated, before we start.
  3. Team. We name the person in charge of the matter and, where necessary, the lawyers and economists working on it.
  4. Execution. We keep you informed of every relevant development and ask for instructions before important decisions.
  5. Closing. We provide a summary of the work done and the documents that belong to the client.

These steps follow the commitments of the Ethical Legal Alliance Manifesto, to which we are signatories.
